AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS

Literacy through Songwriting

Academic enrichment that supports the school day is the focus of afterschool programs to allow more creative play and ingenuity. SEL objectives are embodied in all activities.

Voices for Change (ELL-Specific)

Students take a break from the school day and enjoy singing or writing songs that reinforce vocabulary essential to their success.

Youth Up (Positive Youth Development)

Students learn how to give and receive positive interactions and feedback through fun activities that teach arts skills such as painting, or learning an instrument. Students regularly share their works with family and each other.

By working in teams, youth gain positive social interactions and increase communication and public speaking skills.  Arts education in music or the fine arts provides opportunities for students to develop authentic skills and use creative thinking.

IN-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Literacy through Song

Whether songs are student-created or teacher-provided, Literacy through Song complements the curriculum as students learn or create content-rich lyrics and engaging songs with the artist. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) objectives are program criteria. Programs undergo process and outcome evaluations to ensure student success.

This has been deemed a "model program" by the Ohio Arts Council through the TeachArtsOhio program (2018).

Teaching through the Arts (ELL-Specific)

Teacher modeling in the arts to increase student literacy and learning. Hundreds of original songs are available to teach science, math, social studies and English. All lyrics incorporate SEL objectives.
